Meet Foster™
Foster is the culmination of brand new, pioneering research into bio-technology. Designed to light up your home without any power source, this self-sustaining bio-bulb regulates its own life regardless of the climate it is in. Foster is unlike previous traditional houseplants as it is impossible to kill and thrives in zero natural light*. Comprised of a genetically modified seed pod, Foster absorbs and converts the very same light energy it emits. Trained into shape in our specialist laboratories, Foster is ready to light your home from day one; no preparation or maintenance required. Foster also stores the excess energy produced overnight to be utilised the next day through releasing oxygen into the atmosphere, creating a healthy, breathable living space
Pioneering Electrical Plant-Ware
Through a careful splicing of electrical components within the structure of a seed pod, a new technology hybrid has been made possible. Foster allows us to harness the best of what nature has to offer alongside our innovative human capabilities. The process of creating Foster began with developing specialist photo-sensitive electrical components and testing how they integrate with various parts of plants in different stages of their reproductive cycle- seed pods being the most stable due to their existence as a bridge between life cycles. As part of this research it was also discovered that the bioluminescent enzyme most commonly found in fireflies- luciferase- helped facilitate a smoother homogenization of these two very different technologies.
How does Foster™ work?
Foster works through the same processes found in all plant life, just with a few modified steps that allow it to become an entirely self-fulfilling system. The Pod is the key component to the functioning of Foster. It features a seed pod that contains a modified genetic cycle to allow it to grow its other main component known as the bio-bulb. This natural lightbulb is closely adapted from the biological components of a flower, with the bulb growing from a modified stamen who’s function would have previously been to produce pollen for the plant.
On a microscopic level, Foster’s cells have been reprogrammed to produce light energy alongside chemical energy- both equally necessary for the survival of, and general maintence of the Pod and bio-bulb. The nucleus is in charge of complex functions, controlling the energy levels throughout Foster and ensuring the correct energy is produced in the correct places. The chloroplast carries out the process of photosynthesis, absorbing light and, due to this modification, facilitating conversions between the different energies as required.
